a bit of January

family walk up to Hay Commons

January came in softly and has been quite a variety in weather and events. Mark rang in the New Year with a cold in bed, while the girls and I went to a party at our pastor’s.

The day after, we went on a family walk up to Hay Commons. The sheep along the way were quite interested in our progress. It was a bit muddy, but a nice walk.

I look back on my photos from the first few days and weeks of January and laugh at all the landscapes. The weather just kept shifting. We had rain, ice, snow, frost, fog, and now lots and lots of rain.

Snow!

We had a pretty good snow, but it didn’t last long in town. Though one Saturday, Mark and I took a drive to Llandrindodd and the snow was just gorgeous through the hills. Thankfully, the roads weren’t too bad.

But the snow that sat on the mountains for a few days looked unreal. During one slightly harrowing drive with Genevieve, she kept exclaiming how they looked like a scene from the movies.

I think my favorite though, might be the light frosts. The roads stay clear, the air is so crisp, and the hills in the golden light are just gorgeous.

And a few random bits from the weeks… most happily this face I spotted at the Fishmonger cart during the market. I was waiting for my turn and looked down to see it on the counter. Love it.

And the girls and I were surprised to spot this little alley between some houses in town. Looks so charming.

little spot in town that I’ve never noticed before

But mostly, the last two weeks have been chock full of construction. We are starting several big projects around the house and the dust is flying. It’s a lot of chaos and upheaval, but we cannot wait to see it all come together.

Happy Monday to you all! I’m hoping to get my feet under me with work this week, while I also keep busy with house projects. Hopefully back here again Friday with some little updates, book reviews and links.💚
