Inktober 2026
It snuck up on me again. Somehow Inktober catches me off guard more years than not. Last year, I forgot completely! Didn’t even remember until November hit. How? But today I was chatting at the market with a maker friend about her monthly October challenge and it hit me… Inktober had arrived!
I didn’t make a plan like I usually do, but I’ve made some quick rules for myself:
play with gouache
illustrative, with a possible story
don’t be precious about it
I may look up other prompt lists and see if I like them any better, or I may stick with the official Inktober list. Either way, it was pure chaos today trying to make something, but in the true spirit of Inktober – I carved out time and literal space, found some supplies, and made something from a prompt. (We’ve emptied the entire studio this week to rearrange everything, so when I say I carved out space, I mean I literally cleared off the dining table and had to track down the supplies I wanted in various piles in various rooms.) I made something.
Inktober 1: apple
I don’t love it. But that’s OK. And Genevieve thought it was an orange and asked why it was red. Oops. Guess it goes with the brand.
Show up. Make something. Inktober here we go. 💚
